Layering traditional kirtan with instantly accessible melodies and modern instrumentation, Krishna Das has been called yoga’s “rock star.” With a remarkably soulful voice that touches the deepest chord in even the most casual listener, Krishna Das – known to friends, family, and fans as simply KD – has taken the call-and-response chanting out of yoga centers and into concert halls, becoming a worldwide icon and the best-selling western chant artist of all time. His album ‘Live Ananda’ (released January 2012) was nominated for a Grammy in the Best New Age album category.

Sharing his heart through music and chanting is the basis of Krishna Das’ own spiritual work; his way of serving the Divine within himself and others.

“The chanting just hits you and you want to be a part of it,” KD promises. “That’s the point of this whole thing. That’s what cuts through all the ‘stuff’. You get lit up. You don’t have to know what it means.”

Chanting, helps us dive into a deeper place in our hearts. Peace of heart comes as the process of coming closer to our Self continues to burn our shortcomings in the fire of the deepest Love. “Love is what lasts the 24 hours.” Chanting helps remind us and strengthens our ability to remember that deeper Reality We get a chance to immerse ourselves in the stream of devotion. For an hour or two, nothing else is required. We have nothing else to do. We can gather ourselves and jump into that river…rushing to the Ocean of Love. Sometimes I say to a group, ”I guarantee you one thing tonight: No one’s problems will be solved. So just forget about everything and sing. There is no reason to hold onto anything. Let go and give yourself wholeheartedly to what we’re doing for this short period of time. Sing your heart out and we’ll see what’s left to worry about when it’s over.” I sing to save my own soul. I am happy to be able to sing with people because that helps me give myself to the practice with a greater intensity.

MUSIC
With the release of his 16th album Peace Of My Heart in late 2018, KD on behalf of the Kirtan Wallah Foundation offers nearly two hours of deeply moving, meditative and artfully restrained new recordings born out of a request from a yoga teacher who works with children on the Autism Spectrum. Forgoing the ecstatic tempo changes so common to temple-style kirtan, these 5 new tracks move slowly and deliberately. The song to song steadiness is both striking and soothing, and as emotionally impactful as ever.

Zuiderkerk is located in the center of Amsterdam, where nearby parking is not easy and not advised. We advise you to come by public transport or use your bicycle. Use Park & Ride facilities if you come by car to Amsterdam. Check the use of public transport here to plan your journey.

There are parking garages nearby:

Parking Centrum Oosterdok, 15m walk, Parking EUR 5,- (for one whole day) if you book early, online otherwise EUR 25,- (dayticket).
More closeby (but more expensive): Parkeergarage Stopera, Parkeergarage Waterlooplein,
or use a Park & Ride facility and travel to the venue with public transport.

There are two type of tickets available, to sit on a CHAIR or to sit (on your own) CUSHION.
